ASSEMBLY is an evolving experimental music series presented annually by Somerset House Studios. Launching September 23, the third iteration finds a new architecture online through the creation of this listening platform, which will host five new commissions produced using state-of-the-art spatial sound technology.

Five spatial sound works will premiere for ASSEMBLY 2020 from Zadie Xa, Kelman Duran, Loraine James, Lafawndah and Ben Vince, developed from material made during a four-month artist residency at Somerset House Studios. Working in collaboration with residents Call & Response, the artists have explored new innovations within the fields of immersive listening to create compositions which, housed within this interactive three-dimensional environment, invite audiences to listen, visualise and navigate sound in new ways.

From 23 – 27 September, a work from each artist will premiere nightly at 19.00. Each will be available to hear for the first time through our virtual listening rooms, allowing 360° exploration of the compositions, synchronising the movement and perspective of the listener with their individual listening experience.

These works were developed as part of our 2020 artist residency programme Sonic Terrains, supported by Jerwood Arts' Development Programme Fund.
